About This Website...
|
I began this web site last summer to document my hiking around Colorado. Since then I've added pages from Chile, Mexico, and Central America. I've had both the opportunity and inclination to send my self on these adventures and wish to share them.
Born and raised in Ft. Collins and now living in Aspen, I've maintained Colorado residency for my entire life. Growing up, Aspen was probably the last place in Colorado I would have ever imagined living. I thought it was a place full of rich snobs and most other ski areas in the state get more snow than Aspen does.
So how did I end up there? After racing for a mountain bike team in Tacoma, WA for the summer after graduating from college there, I decided to return to Colorado and move to Crested Butte to follow my true life ambition to become a mountain bum. On my way there, I went to the Sand Dunes National Monument for a snow (sand) shoe race. There I met several friendly people from Aspen and they invited me to come check the place out. I went to Crested Butte, but it seemed deserted and I couldn't find a job that started before Thanksgiving. I came to Aspen, found a job in a day, and the rest is history.
I've had almost 50 different jobs since my arrival, from raft guiding and snowboard instructing to pedaling a rickshaw on icy streets and transplanting 50 foot trees. I enjoy the resort lifestyle because I can easily take a month or two or four off to do what I want, but dislike it because the busy work seasons are when my family is on holiday. I'd like to get to the point where I do not have to "work" at all, and just be a slave to this computer in between adventures. This web site is at best a rough start, but it gives me motivation to do something with myself other than be a bum.
