Living in Aspen makes the Elk Range an easy place to explore. This summer I ventured up Willow Creek for a three day trip with my friend Kevin.
A rainbow over Aspen viewed from Buttermilk Mountain. This was our start to get to Willow Creek. We dropped into the valley below Burnt Mountain down a very steep and slippery wet slope to the lush and overgrown valley floor. We found a campsite in the dark and trampled down the vegetation to make a place to sleep. The next day we bushwhacked until we found the abandoned trail and proceeded to the upper valley. We camped below Willow Lake. The third day we headed up Sievers Mountain and then down the other side to Maroon Creek (an extreme bushwhack the way we went). We caught the Maroon Creek bus back to town.
