Castle Peak

I wanted a falltime photo for my 2005 calendar. I chose Castle Peak as my subject. The standard hiking route to the summit isn't particurarly scenic, but I've always been intrigued by Castle Ridge, a jagged and crumbly ridgeline of reddish sedimentary rock that extends south of the summit. I passed several days hiking around the east and south sides of the mountain looking for a photo that captured the size of this mountain and its impressive south ridgeline. These are my favorite images from my wanderings.
The view from Cumberland Basin.
Another view from Cumberland Basin on the same day. This is my favorite picture from my explorations. I had preconcieved the first photo. This one was spontaneous. The perspective here was more dramatic than I had anticipated and the shadows came together just right.
Views from the ridgeline to the SE.
Lofty views from Castle Ridge down to Cumberland Basin. I found a route to the top of one of the spires of Castle Ridge and hoped for a nice photo of the mountain. The conditions weren't right, but it was still a fun afternoon. I'll come back.
