In the fall of 1999 I dissected two Colorado Gazetteer books (they contain topographic maps for the whole state), color-coded the different elevations and assembled an 8 foot square Colorado on my wall. Scheming began in earnest.

In June of 2001 I began with the intention of hiking end to end every mountain range in the state of Colorado that summer. Well, I'm on my third summer now and can see it may take a total of five or six summers to do this idea justice.
